***NEW*** Election of Parent Governor
We are electing a new parent governor to join the governing body.  Our parent governors are very valuable members of the governing body, we rely on them to help us to keep in touch with what parents are thinking.

Governing bodies are responsible for a wide range of matters.  Their duties include management of the school budget, school effectiveness, preparation for OfSTED inspection, formulation and execution of post-OfSTED Action Plan and involvement in a variety of personnel and pupil issues.  In your role as a school governor, you will be supported in these duties by other experienced members of the governing body, the co-headteachers, the clerk to the governors and Peterborough Diocese Education Trust (PDET).

All governors need:

  • Commitment to improving education for all pupils
  • Ability to work in a team and take collective responsibility for decisions
  • Willingness to learn
  • Commitment to the school’s vision and ethos

Applicants must also have experience and skills in one or more of the following:

  • Previous experience of being a board member in another sector or a governor/trustee in another school
  • Understanding and experience of strategic planning
  • Financial planning/management
  • Experience of procurement/purchasing
  • Experience of premises and facilities management
  • Knowledge of the local/regional economy

The level of commitment required is:

  • 4 Year Term of Office
  • Attend 6 full governor meetings per year on a weekday evening (approx. 2 hours each)
  • Attend 5 sub-committee meetings per year on a weekday evening (approx 1-2 hours each)
  • Attend New Governor Induction training
  • Attend other training as needed
  • Structured monitoring visits to school - at least one day per year
  • Work outside meetings reviewing policies and other documents

Anyone who has parental responsibility for a pupil on the school roll at the time of the election can stand for election and can vote in the election.

Our school is totally committed to safeguarding children and so the successful applicants would require a DBS check prior to taking up the appointment.

If you are satisfied that you meet the criteria and are eligible to become a governor and wish to apply for this role, please complete a nomination and declaration form. Please include a personal statement which covers:

  • Evidence of possession of at least one of the skills required (listed above)
  • Relevant experience applying the skill(s)
  • How you plan to contribute to the future work of the governing body

This statement will be circulated to all parents in the event that an election is required. The nomination and declaration form can be downloaded from the bottom of this page, below the governor profiles.

The timeline of the process is as follows:

1)      All nominations and declarations to arrive in the school office by 1000 on 05-May-2017

2)   Ballot papers sent out 11-May-2017

3)      Voting closes at 1000 on 22-May-2017

4)      Successful applicant(s) informed by 26-May-2017

Ballot forms will be sent home with the children so please check in book bags.  Each parent will have one vote per vacancy regardless of the number of children you have in the school. The ballot is secret; you can send or post the ballot papers back in a sealed envelope, or drop it into the ballot box outside the school office.
